Biography
Jean-Marc is a Canadian attorney with 30 years of experience practicing international trade law. His clients include large multinational corporations, SMEs as well as business start-ups located in Canada and abroad.
Over the years he has become a trusted advisor to many corporate executives and managers at all company levels on a broad range of international trade subjects. His area of expertise includes: customs procedures, import tariffs, duty recovery, foreign procurement and outsourcing, supply chain optimization, import and export controls, dumping and countervailing duties, free trade agreements, transfer pricing, trade and economic sanctions, corporate governance, foreign anti-corruption, due diligence reviews, voluntary disclosures, audit assistance and government relations.
He regularly defends his clients’ interests in dispute settlement proceedings, including court representation in complex litigation cases.
Jean-Marc served two consecutive terms on the national board of IE Canada (the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters), an association for which he presided their Quebec Chapter. In 2015 he was invited to join the Advisory Committee of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal. He is also a valued member and active participant in the Global Customs & Trade Facilitation Commission of the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce).
He is a frequent guest lecturer at McGill University and École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) where he teaches post-graduate classes on free trade agreements and many other international trade subjects.
Jean-Marc completed his law degree (Civil Law) at the University of Ottawa in 1988 and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1989. He also attended the EM Strasbourg School of Management in France where he obtained his masters’ diploma (DESS) in International Trade in 1993.
